We Be Jammin'

Last week Bethany called me with the best idea ever: go berry picking and make jam? My response? IT WOULD BE THE DREAM OF MY LIFE! I remember my mom making jam (apricot, to be specific) when I was younger and I wanted to learn to make some for myself. However, I was scared to do it incorrectly and cause botulism, so when Bethany and Joel asked, I felt confident since Joel is a Ph.D. in chemistry. They drove down to Ladner and we went to Emma Lea Farms to pick tayberries and strawberries.

Joel was really good at finding strawberries. The rest of us were really good at picking tayberries. Did you know that tayberries had thorns everywhere? It's a finger prick for each berry.

Later we went back to the Benoit-Kelly's to do the actual jamming since they had all the stuff to make it with. After several trips to the grocery story, Joel Kelly burning his hand :( and lots of stirring, wonderful jam was made.

The Benoit-Kellys were so great, they even feed us an amazing taco dinner. The jars sealed and the jam tastes tremendous! Wheeeeeee!
